Is this a couple of Melitaea deione berisalii? Found on the way from Kalpetran to Stalden (Valais) on 13 June, where I also saw two or three others. But these two never opened their wings to show and check for the "X".

Yes, it’s definitely a couple of Melitaea deione berisalii. This species is fairly easy to identify with its wings closed. The small, wide black bows along the edge of the hindwing are typical.
